“Architectural” Cages

Hong Kong is one of the most populated city in the world. Huge population and limited space had caused to a housing shortage. With the wealthy gradually edge out the poor, where does the less well-off go?

Many of the poorest are forced to live in unimaginably small space. Over 50,000 people are still living in metal cage homes usually exists in old buildings in older urban distrcit, who do not qualify for subsidised rent or social welfare. Cage home are also categorised as bed space apartments by Hong Kong Government usually are less than 30 square feet in size. Without doors, there is no safety or privacy inside these confined cages. Fire protection is inadequate. Poor people in the neighbourhood are forced into cages and left to rot screaming for relief. This leaves a serious question in Hong Kong that to earmark sufficient space for subsidised homes is needed.
