Architecture and Augmented Reality

Thesis Statement
We have always been using extra information to support ourselves in daily life, we use map to find locations, we go online to check transport route and schedule, we read books and webpage to see comments about tourist spots and shops. We are using material from all these information(virtual) to decide our actions(reality), where we go, how we get there, what we do there.
Now with AR technology, we are more or less doing the same thing, just the information could overlay right on the real world. Our architectures have changed when we invented artificial illumination, projection, plasma screens, all these influenced how the designers made their buildings. My thesis would be on how architecture adapt and embrace this technology.

Description of contexts
My focus on this topic will not be on the technology side nor the content of the media, but to investigate want kind of interaction could be carried out between physical buildings and this AR media. It would be similar to how designers putting LED screen and light projections onto buildings, the difference is that it would be more interactive and individual. The architecture would take up the role of being a stage, or a frame, carefully leave out the space for the AR

Description of Project
I am planning the architectural project to be a small “one street scale” project, like redesigning the Ngong Ping Village. Design parameters would be based on certain ways that people apply AR on their surrounding environments. Whether, if the person is using it as a guide for circulate, or maybe the person is checking comments on a place, or that person just using the entertainment feature, all these would require a different design.

capture
For example, smart phone cameras can identify certain objects within a level of variation, we also know we can control how people look at an architecture by using circulation, combine these together we can let visitors to see an AR show at specific spot and angle. For multi-people interaction, it would be very different thing. The design itself needs to have cameras to track visitors and have screens or projectors to provide instant reactions.
