Since 1980s, core of industrial development has shifted to mainland, where the industrial factory were gently replaced by the another uses. Many existing industrial buildings were seeking another way to keeping its values or extent its duration rather than demolish right away. Normally the duration of a concrete factory is 50 years, where the metabolism idea is sufficient to prolong the building duration in a sustainable sense. But rather than traditional “metabolism” which replace the existing structure once entirely, the thesis is to study the possibility that changing the existing building part by part, until the new structure system and modular unit replace the original building system to cope with nowadays needs.
