Rebuilding ‘hometown’ for immigrants from reservoir region

The construction of reservoirs in rural China has been forcing thousands of villagers leaving their home village where their ancestors have been living for generations. The lack of planning and concern on these immigrants have resulted in their difficulty in adapting to new environment, which is one of the reasons that lead to instability of society. Though people have realized this for more than 50 years, few effective actions have been taken and the situation stays similar. Therefore, this thesis aims to look into how, architecture as a reminder, can be inspired by traditional skills and help to build up sense of belonging for those immigrants.
