[Abstract] I would like to introduce a new housing system for the digital era that brings living, working and playing into a single structure to achieve a smart city in suburban area of Hong Kong . Digital device and advance technology created a new culture in the 21st century. My focus on the digital culture is mainly on the elimination of physical distance, so the physical world should response to the latest culture accordingly. Le Corbusier proposed a new housing prototype, The Radiant City in 1935 and a modern daily life cycle under the article of The Great Waste in 1937. I would like to propose a new housing system with a new daily life cycle for the digital era.

Advances in information system and communication technologies have made various forms of teleworking possible. The decreasing price of computers overtime also makes room for an affordable and accessible computer in every family. In addition, a number of publications show the advantages of teleworking regarding to environment and energy saving. In fact, telecommuting for work in America climbs to 37% in 2015. The following lists are the sample positions with potential for telecommuting and possible home business in America. Since Hong Kong is a financial hub, most of the careers could be able to adapt the idea of home office.

Influence of telecommuting in a city scale

In fact, Planning Department in Hong Kong has studied the potential impact of teleworking on the trend of office decentralisation in the late 1990. In 2002, they foresee 5 potential strategic planning implications due to home office, including 1.reducing mass transit as well as 2.the demand on office tower, 3.decentralization, 4.changing housing demand on large flats and small flats, and 5.greater demand for commercial and community services in residential neighbourhoods.

Advantage and Disadvantage of telecommuting in a human scale

Pros Cons
Flexible working hours

Save time and money from travel

Spend time to be with family

Cause obesity

Insomnia

Social segregation

Poor eye sight

Therefore, I proposes to spend the time that remote worker saved from traveling to alleviate the problems from telecommuting.
