Urban Village Renewal in China

Urban Village is an unique category of urban zone in China nowadays. These villages are formed by migrant workers in 80s-90s in China. Because of urban expansion in wider range, these villages have to be reconstructed. Basically, original local residents have to remove by force to farther suburb. There does exist a lack of architectural care. Furthermore, after being demolished and completely renewed, these areas where most of have a advantageous location in the city, have significant potential for urban development. No matter what kind of architecture it may become, it does have a long term effect on the city development, which is the aspect I would like to explore for thesis topic. These new sub ‘city centre’ stand not only the previous living habit but also modern atmosphere. I will engage in digging more typologies of such reconstruction to find an direction for exploring these urban zones.
