Summary Statement

All in all, our physical world is being changing dramaticly everyday. It is necessary to discuss would like to explode the technology to generate the architecture which could be more flexible both inside and outside.

WHAT

WHAT

With the quick development of urbanism, car park architecture, which occupy lots of resources of the city both above and under the ground, such as the importance of the site, huge architectural space and busy traffic, is facing the biggest challenge in the near future.

Nowadays, most of the car park have a common phenomenon as follows; 1st, they are being occupied and be vacant in some special time of the day. 2nd, the bigger car park always indicate that the more complex community and population are surrounding. For these reasons, the car park will be potential architecture which could be changed into a more flexible architecture which meat to different function used by different people in different time. Hong Kong is a typical suffering this problem. The limited space of the city requires the high utilization rate of architectural space.

WHY

WHY

While talking about flexible architecture in the 1960s, the magazine Archigram has proposed that the architecture should not be stable in the future such as the walking city . However, This kind of idea explored in Japan named Metobalism who argue that the architecture should be flexible and evolve, reuse and update with the development of the city. After 1990s, architects were more interested in the new technology drive by the computer which could help to simulate the ventilation and solar energy. How ever, most of the idea of the flexible are achieved are only appear on the facade rather then the space inside of the architecture.

I would like to explode the technology to generate the architecture which could be more flexible to suit to different situation. Not only the form but also the inside space, providing more possiblicity to the surrounding and people who live in side

HOW

HOW

Design Methodology

How to make the space flexible?

1.Disign the movable space inside
Inspired by the Chinese traditional game “Hua Rong Road” and the Three-dimensional parking system, I will explore to find how to organize the space form the section to make the space movable.

2.Design the mechanical device to solve the feasibility problem such as the joint design between mechanical device with architectural material such as the concrete and the glass.
